Company History

Formed in 1989 by Gerard Muckian. Original company size 4000 sq ft premises with 8 Staff. Installed our first complete 300 per hour lamb slaughtering line at Kepak Hacketstown in 1991. Installed our first 50 per hour beef slaughtering system at Irish Country Meats, Ballyhaunis in 1994. Carried out our first overseas contracts in Iceland in 1996.

Purchased Abachem Engineering in 1999. In doing so we acquired our own brand of aluminum bi-rail. Completed first Turnkey/Greenfield project for St Merryn Meats at MerthyrTydfil in 2001. Achieved ISO 9002 accreditation in 2002. In 2002, designed and built 2500 lamb capacity pre-chiller for Dungannon Meats: This is the largest of its kind in Europe. Present size of Company - 18000 sq ft factory with 50 Staff.

GM Steel is located at Coes Road, Industrial Estate, Dundalk, Co. Louth, Ireland. This is midway between Dublin and Belfast on the M1. Abachem Engineering Ltd is located at Jessop Way, Newark, Notts, England. This is easily reached from the A1.
